When In Doubt, Just Start Somewhere

I don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve never done this blogging thing, nor do I consider myself the writer of the family. That would be my sister. Growing up, she was the one editing my school papers. She would look up from her initial read, eyebrow cocked, with an expression like seriously, what is this? Haha... So when God inspired this crazy idea to start a blog I said- seriously, what is this? This is Mel, remember?
If you’re at a place in your life where you don’t know what to do or where the right place is to start, be encouraged! You are exactly where you need to be! In order to go after your dreams, you’ve got to start somewhere, even if it’s at a place that doesn’t make sense.
And this is where I start: not ready, inexperienced, and knees trembling! This goes against everything I think I know. I’m the type of person who needs to be good at something before I try it. I’m realizing I’m not supposed to start out as an expert. But you learn by doing, and that is the only way it’s done.
So let me encourage you as you start your journey!
Listen to the dreams you had as a kid, even the crazy ones.
I am a dreamer myself. Early on, I would daydream about great adventures and an extravagant lifestyle. I dreamed of being an actress on the big screen while owning a cute little bakery, and living by the sea-all at once! I dreamed of my prince charming and a fairy tale kind of love. I have dreamt for the best in life, and I believe that those desires came from God; they weren’t ridiculous notions or child’s play, but seeds of promises to come. They were God’s way of speaking His desires for me into my heart and I believe He does that for all of us.
The hard part is not dreaming, but doing.

How do we attain all that we want in life if we don’t know what to do? Maybe your dream is still fuzzy. You only see glimpses of things that catch your eye and are unsure of what they all mean. I encourage you to water those seeds. Dream more and ask God to paint you a clearer picture, and believe that something wonderful will develop in your heart; for Jesus said that anything is possible for those who believe. (Mark 9:23) Some dreams take time and the visions you may have now are meant for later in life, but don’t let that frustrate you. I’ve been dreaming since I wore gymboree overalls, and now I’m well into my 20’s and I believe I am finally ready for God to make some of those dreamy glimpses into my reality. Remember that God must prepare us first!
Get used to not having all the answers. Not knowing what to do is part of His plan.
God wants to refresh your stale life. He wants you to live adventurously, and part of the adventure is not having all of the answers. More like having no answers. Why? Because, my darling, when our only option is to trust and depend on our creator for all things, we grow closer to Him, and that is the whole point to this life.
No matter what your situation may look like now, or how far away you are from your goal, He is able to make it happen! He wants you to believe in Him and that He will take care of you. He is our father who has every resource on this earth and in heaven and wants to give them to you. He only wants you in return. He desires to be close to you and for you to know Him intimately, and he desires for you to have everything you've dreamed of and more.
God will make up for what you lack (know-how, money, skills, ideas, opportunity...) You give Him yourself, your broken pieces, and jumbled ideas and He writes a beautiful story. He is made strong in our weaknesses. Let Him take the burden off of your shoulders and simply follow His instructions. Rely on Him to make you successful.
Pray for direction, and if you don’t get a clear answer, start in the direction that feels right.
It’ll either be right or wrong, but at least it’ll be one step closer. God gave us free will and common sense to use when making decisions. And yes, as children of God we are also able to ask for wisdom and direction, but when He is silent, He is trusting us to use our best judgment. There is no failing when you are a beloved child of God, He is always with us, He is our safety net! Sometimes it’s making the first step that is important, not which way we go.

Remind yourself of the promises He made to you in His Word.
It's comforting to know that He is holding our right hand. He is the Lord who says to us “fear not; I will help you!” (Isaiah 41:13)
“Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19)
He will make a way!
Psalms 37:4 states: “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.”
I love how it says “secret petitions”, things we don’t even know we desire yet. He’s got all the bases covered, for our God is able to do superabundantly, above and beyond, all that we could ever dare to ask, hope or think (infinitely beyond our highest prayers desires. thoughts, hopes, or dreams) -Ephesians 3:20. What?! I’ll take it!
So go get ‘em tiger!
When in doubt, just start somewhere. God’s got you, girl! You get what you're believing for. Don’t be afraid of nothin’!

I believe that you have great and wonderful plans for me and I thank you for my dreams, Lord. Help me to understand Your vision and hear your direction for my life. I pray that I may crave a relationship with you in a more intimate way; that I want you more than I want anything in this life.

Even though I don’t know what to do, God does, and He will bless my steps of faith! Even though I am new and inexperienced I am destined for greatness, and I believe that God is working on my behalf, behind the scenes. I claim His favor and anointing over my life in Jesus name! I come against doubt and fear and I am able to do all things through Christ, for He is with me!
